Stuart Tubis, Partner at Jeffer Mangels & Mitchell LLP, was quoted in the Sacramento Bee article, “1 Woman Sues 47 Sacramento Businesses in 3 Years. Lawmakers Reach for Solutions.”
The article examines a small group of individuals filing dozens of lawsuits in the Sacramento region under the Americans with Disabilities Act and how state lawmakers plan to address it. One plaintiff, Meryl Pomponio, and her attorney, Daniel Malakauskas, are well known for filing these suits, and Tubis has represented several businesses sued by them.
He told the Sacramento Bee, there are so many ADA specifications that even dealing with the law every day, he must regularly look them up.
“It’s actually quite difficult to make a business 100% ADA compliant. You can’t really take me anywhere, because I’ll point out some kind of ADA violation,” said Tubis.
He went on to say, law firms like Malakauskas’ have taken advantage of a well-intentioned law and have led to the closure of several businesses he’s worked with.
